HHS RELEASES LIHEAP FUNDS ------------------------- Responding to requests from the Northeast-Midwest Senate and Congressional Coalitions, the Department of Health and Human Services is immediately releasing $273 million in first-quarter funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). HHS will release another $325 million in LIHEAP dollars on January 1. Click here to obtain a list of state-by-state allocations.
MANUFACTURING EXTENSION PARTNERSHIP ----------------------------------- Leaders of the House and Senate Manufacturing Task Forces have asked the Office of Management and Budget to request $110 million in the president's fiscal 2005 budget for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP). MEP is a federal/state partnership that helps small manufacturers become productive and competitive.
NATURAL GAS WORKING GROUP ------------------------- The Bipartisan Natural Gas Working Group -- co-chaired by Reps. Mike Castle (R-DE) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) -- is crafting legislation that will help stabilize natural gas prices and supply. The working group's objective is to develop and advance environmentally-responsible consensus legislation promoting the near- and long-term affordability and price stability of natural gas.
