INVESTING IN BROWNFIELD PROJECTS

     The Northeast-Midwest Coalitions on Monday, January 26, will host a briefing on the financing of brownfield projects.  Cities, towns, and rural communities are working to redevelop the estimated 450,000 brownfields found nationwide.  The briefing -- with presentations by experts from the Northeast-Midwest Institute and AIG Global Real Estate -- will explain how private investors analyze brownfield projects, as well as highlight an emerging strategy to facilitate private-sector investment in such redevelopment efforts.

 

     The January 25 briefing will run from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm in 2105 Rayburn House Office Building.  Refreshments will be served.

 

 

REGIONAL ANALYSIS OF THE PRESIDENT'S BUDGET

     The Northeast-Midwest Institute on Monday, February 2, will provide a regional review of the president's fiscal 2005 budget.  The report will analyze proposed funding for federal programs particularly important to northeastern and midwestern states.  It will be released to Coalition members, officials from dues-paying states, and regional reporters by late-afternoon on February 2.

 

 

GREAT LAKES RESTORATION

     Leaders of the Great Lakes Cities Initiative met last week with the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and the director of the Council on Environmental Quality in order to advance efforts for the protection and restoration of the Great Lakes.  The Great Lakes Cities Initiative is chaired by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley.
