Northeast-Midwest Weekly Update – 16 February 2004

 

MAINE MANUFACTURING FORUM

            Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME), chairman of the Senate Small Business Committee, will host a forum – in Brewer, Maine, on Tuesday, February 17 – on federal initiatives that can assist small and mid-sized manufacturers.  The Maine Small Business Manufacturing Forum will pay particular attention to the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), an effective program whose budget has been slashed.  Representatives from Maine MEP, Small Business Administration, and University of Southern Maine will discuss financing, technical assistance, government contracting opportunities, and patenting services.

 

 

MANUFACTURERS AND COGENERATION
---------------------------------------------------

            The Northeast-Midwest Institute and TechSolve, an Ohio MEP and Edison Center, on Wednesday, February 18, will host a workshop in Cincinnati on how manufacturers can increase their efficiency and productivity with combined heat and power systems.  The workshop will bring together executives from Perfetti Van Melle, Douglas Machine, TurboSteam, and the Midwest CHP Application Center in order to help manufacturers determine if cogeneration technologies can meet their companies’ needs.
