Dear friends,

We are pleased to provide you with detailed program information for 
Great Lakes Day in Washington, an annual event featuring presentations 
and dialogue on Great Lakes priorities by regional leaders and members 
of Congress. Space is limited and many have already registered, so 
please act promptly by faxing your registration form to (734-971-9150)

The day will begin with the annual Great Lakes Congressional Breakfast 
sponsored jointly by the Great Lakes Commission and the 
Northeast-Midwest Institute. The theme is "Restore the Greatness: Moving 
Forward!" Confirmed speakers include Senator Mike DeWine (OH) and 
Representative Tom Reynolds (NY). Invitations to another Senator, as 
well as a Great Lakes governor and mayor, have been extended. Agenda:

Following the breakfast, a Great Lakes Issues Briefing with regional 
leadership and Congressional staff will be held in Room H-902 of the 
Hart Senate Office Building (see attached map or visit 
www.aoc.gov/visit/cc_map_entrances.htm). Sponsored by the Great Lakes 
Commission, it offers attendees additional detail on regional issues, as 
well as the priorities of the member states of the Great Lakes 
Commission. Such issues include ecosystem restoration initiatives; the 
Annex 2001 process; U.S. and Canada obligations under the Great Lakes 
Water Quality Agreement; and Congressional staff perspectives on leading 
issues. Among others, speakers include: Tom Skinner, Administrator, U.S. 
EPA-Region 5; John Mills, Director General, Environment Canada - Ontario 
Region; and Ken DeBeaussaert, Director, Office of the Great Lakes, 
Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Agenda:

Again, space is limited; interested parties are advised to register

Registrations will be handled on a "first come, first served" basis. 
There is a charge of $40 ($50 Canadian) in advance or $45 ($55 Canadian)

The Great Lakes Commission, chaired by Sam Speck (Ohio), is a 
nonpartisan, binational compact agency created by state and U.S. federal 
law and dedicated to promoting a strong economy, healthy environment and 
high quality of life for the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence region and its 
residents. The Commission consists of state legislators, agency 
officials, and governors’ appointees from its eight member states. 
Associate membership for Ontario and Québec was established through the 
signing of a "Declaration of Partnership." The Commission maintains a 
formal Observer program involving U.S. and Canadian federal agencies, 
tribal authorities, binational agencies and other regional interests.
