OHIO LAKE ERIE COMMISSION RESCHEDULES
QUARTERLY MEETING TO WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14
The Ohio Lake Erie Commission (LEC) will hold its quarterly meeting at 10
a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, at the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center,
Huntington Reservation, 28728 Wolf Road in Bay Village. The meeting was
originally scheduled for March 17.
Agenda items tentatively include consideration of the latest round of small
grant applications and an update on the 2004 large grant cycle for research
projects. Commission members and advisory organizations will report on the
latest lake-related projects and issues. They will also discuss plans for
this year's public outreach programs which include the "Life On Lake Erie"
photo contest, Coastweeks 2004 and the Ohio Lake Erie Awards.
All meetings of the Ohio Lake Erie Commission are open to the public and
include a public comment period. Organizations and citizens are urged to
attend this meeting and provide input on Lake Erie issues.
The Ohio Lake Erie Commission is comprised of directors of the Ohio
departments of the environmental protection agency, natural resources,
transportation, development, health and agriculture. The commission was
established to preserve Lake Erie's natural resources, water quality and
ecosystem. It also promotes economic development in the region.
The commission oversees the Ohio Lake Erie Protection Fund (LEPF). During
the last 12 years, the commission has raised nearly $7 million through the
sale of Lake Erie license plates. This money is used to fund LEPF grants
that focus on improving the quality of Lake Erie and to furthering the
goals laid out in Ohio's Lake Erie Protection & Restoration Plan.
