Joint stewardship of our shared environment is a
cornerstone of the Canada-United States relationship, and will
increase in importance as both countries face the environmental
challenges of the 21st century.
Established by the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909, the IJC
assists governments in finding solutions to problems involving
waters that lie along, or flow across, the border between the United
States and Canada.

University of Wisconsin-Madison and the USGS National Wildlife

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw is
scheduled to be decommissioned in 2006. Manitowoc Marine Corperation
has been contracted to construct a new multi-purpose icebreaking
vessel for launch in 2005. The new cutter will also be called
