Local naturalists and ecologists including Kate Redmond, Noel Cutright, Jim Reinartz, Heather Patti, Joanne Kline, and Alice Thompson will be leading guided walks of Cedarburg Bog and other natural areas at the UWM Field Station. Here's a brief sampling:

* At 10:00 AM, take a walk on the boardwalk with local naturalist Kate Redmond to learn about the natural history of Cedarburg Bog, including information on the insects and edible and medicinal plants found there.

* At 10:15 AM and 3:45 PM, local wetland expert Alice Thompson will lead tours for kids and families. Explore nearby nature using dip nets to capture wetland creatures and microscopes to view them in the Field Station's lab!

* At 10:30 AM, take a walk with local birding expert Noel Cutright through an area he says supports the longest species list of any non-coastal birding spot in Wisconsin.

There's plenty of fun in store for young wetland enthusiasts at "Birthday in the Bog!" Our Kids' Activity Tent will be open from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Try your hand at our "Wetland Mystery Socks," build your own pitcher plant, investigate wetland jigsaw puzzles with habitat riddles, and more!

Wildlife Biologist and Naturalist Randy Hetzel of Randyman Productions will also have his collections of live, native amphibians and reptiles on display from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Calling All Kids! Come play "Drip, Drip, Splash!", a soggier version of "Duck, Duck, Goose!" at 12:00 PM (weather permitting).

WWA Annual Meeting, Barbeque Lunch

Wisconsin Wetlands Association will hold its Annual Meeting from 12:30 - 1:00 PM at "Birthday in the Bog!" to recognize volunteers and donors and present highlights of our 2004 programs and activities.

Following the meeting, join us for an old-fashioned pig roast and barbeque lunch! On the menu is pork, chicken, and veggie burgers along with an assortment of salads and other barbeque fixings. Bring your lawn chairs and/or blankets for enjoying the barbeque while listening to live entertainment!

WWA staffer Erin O'Brien and DNR Water Division Administrator Todd Ambs will provide live wetland- themed entertainment. Guests are also welcome to bring along their own musical instruments for a low key "jam" session.

Come prepared for outdoor activities (tennis shoes or boots you don't mind getting wet or muddy, long sleeves and pants, wide brimmed hat, sunscreen, and mosquito repellant) so you can get out and enjoy Cedarburg Bog.
