LAKE ERIE PROTECTION FUND GRANTEES FILE FINAL REPORTS
Eight reports on project status and outcomes now available for public
review
Final results for eight projects that focused on the protection and
preservation of Lake Erie and its watershed are now available for public
review, according to the Ohio Lake Erie Commission.
The projects represent a variety of research efforts, including an
initiative to create a Lake Erie Buffer Team to stop soil erosion, a storm
water management plan for the Yellow Creek watershed and a GIS model for
Mentor Marsh that aids in scientific study and natural resources
management.
These projects are examples of the work that Ohioans support each time they
purchase a Lake Erie license plate, displaying either the Marblehead
Lighthouse or the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse. The Ohio Lake Erie Commission
oversees the Lake Erie Protection Fund, established to help finance long
and short-term research projects that impact the environmental and
recreational aspects of the lake. During the past 11 years, the commission
has raised more than $7.5 million in Lake Erie license plate sales and
funded in excess of 200 projects.
The final reports of these recently completed projects can be viewed at the
Ohio Lake Erie Commission's web site at <http://www.epa.state.oh.us/oleo> .
Copies of specific reports can be obtained by calling 419-245-2514
The Ohio Lake Erie Commission is comprised of the directors of the Ohio
Environmental Protection Agency and the Ohio departments of natural
resources, transportation, development, health and agriculture. The
commission was created to preserve the lake's natural resources and protect
the quality of its waters and ecosystem.
