Farm-to-School Briefings

The Northeast-Midwest Institute and the Community Food Security Coalition on Thursday, April 7, will host House and Senate briefings on the Farm-to-Cafeteria program authorized in the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act.  Pilot projects from across the country will be discussed and used to highlight how this new competitive grant program can improve both children’s diets and family farm viability by assisting schools in overcoming the barriers to purchasing locally-grown food.

The House-side briefing on April 7 will run from 11:00 am until 12:15 pm in 2456 Rayburn House Office Building.  The Senate-side session will begin at 3:00 pm in 428 Dirksen Senate Office Building.  Contact:  Allen Hance at the Northeast-Midwest Institute (202/464-4015).

Manufacturing Letter

This week marks the deadline for House member to sign the Dear Colleague letter requesting appropriations for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership.  MEP assists small and mid-sized manufacturers.  Offices interested in signing should contact Lisa Mark with the Northeast-Midwest Congressional Coalition (202/225-5731).
