Slaughter Becomes Co-Chair of Great Lakes Task
Force
Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) has accepted a
Democratic co-chair position on the House Great Lakes Task
Force. She joins Rep. John Dingell (D-MI), Vernon J. Ehlers
(R-MI) and Mark Kirk (R-IL). Rep. Slaughter represents the 28th
District of New York, which includes Rochester, Buffalo, and Niagara
Falls. She is the ranking member on the House Rules Committee
and is excited to continue her Great Lakes work on
sewage infrastructure, aquatic invasive species, and water level issues.
Port Security Grants
The Great Lakes Task Force is circulating a letter that
asks the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to give fair consideration
to port-security grant applications from Great Lakes
ports. Unfortunately, DHS previously announced it would accept
applications from only 66 ports, just one of which, Milwaukee, is in
the Great Lakes. The letter’s
signature deadline is Thursday, June 30. Contact: Joy Mulinex with the Great
Lakes Task Force (202/224-1211).
