Please join us in Green Bay, WI for the joint Lake 4THLake Michigan: State of the Lake Conference and Great Lakes Beach Association Meeting.  The conference brings together scientists, resource managers, planners, policy makers, officials, students, and citizens working to improve and protect Lake Michigan and all Great Lakes beaches.  The theme for this year's conference is Restoring Lake Michigan and Green Bay ? Assessing What is Possible. 


This is the final call for papers; our apologies for cross-postings.  All interested persons are invited to submit abstracts for consideration.  Both oral and poster presentations will require an abstract.  The abstract submittal deadline has been extended to August 12, 2005.  Authors will be notified of acceptance by September 2, 2005.  Authors must follow the abstract format and submission instructions found on the conference web site, http://www.aqua.wisc.edu/solm/.


We encourage authors to submit abstracts for specific session topics but also will consider general contributions.

Great Lakes Beach Poster Session Topics


Please note that all Great Lakes Beach Association platform presentations are invited and abstract submissions for beach topics will be considered for poster presentations only.  Posters on beach health research from all Canadian and U.S. Great Lakes jurisdictions are encouraged.  Posters representing original research may be submitted for any aspect of beach health but the following topics are especially welcomed: 


  • Source Tracking and Nonpoint Sources of Pathogens
  • Rapid Testing, Predictive Monitoring and Efficacy Evaluation
  • Modeling
  • Visitor Communication, Inter- and Intra-State Communication, and Progress Reporting
  • Swimming Health Effects
  • Policy Development


Presenters are expected to cover their travel costs and registration fees. The conference registration fee for presenters has been reduced to $60 ($40 for students) through generous contributions from the U.S. EPA and the WI Coastal Management Program.  Your registration fee covers the cost of breakfasts, lunches, breaks and an evening poster reception.  The conference will be held at the new KI Convention Center adjacent to the Fox River in downtown Green Bay.  The Center is connected to the Regency Suites (Green Bay?s only all-suite hotel) and across the street from the Holiday Inn City Centre Hotel.  Both hotels are offering exceptional room rates of $62/night for government employees.  (The conference rate at the Regency Suites will be $92 for non-government attendees).
