Announcement: Forum on Earth Observations to be
held Feb. 15-16 in La Jolla
The Alliance for Earth Observations, an
initiative of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), is a
mechanism for the private sector to provide feedback to the government on the
planning of a global observation system of systems. This is the platform through
which industry, academia and ngo's come together and give a cohesive voice. The
old adage that there is strength in numbers is a good one. The more the private
sector works together, the more this international, governmental effort will be
maximized for the benefit of the environment, society and the economy.
We
are currently working on an event to take place in La Jolla in February 2006
called "The Forum on Earth Observations: Managing Risk in the 21st Century"
(www.forumoneo.com). Every effort is being made to create a dynamic, fresh
program. We are approaching every possible avenue to get the word out about this
meeting so that the audience is a diverse one. Earth observations impact so many
sectors that in order to maximize the benefits it is important that there is a
dialogue across sectors. The planning committee is an equally diverse group of
experts from industry, the government and academia. We would like to ensure that
the audience is equally diverse. From the energy sector to the public health
sector; from the insurance/reinsurance sector to transportation. From emergency
managers, to the IT technical experts who will look at the interoperability of
the architecture of a global earth observing system of systems.
If you
should have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. In
addition, any advice you could provide on getting the word out about this event
would be greatly appreciated.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Judy
