LIHEAP Funding
-- Letter
Reps. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Edward Markey (D-MA),
Robert Simmons (R-CT), Jeb Bradley (R-NH), Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Maurice
Hinchey (D-NY), and Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY) are circulating a letter
asking the president to release quickly the remaining $101 million in
emergency Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding
targeted to cold-weather states. The letter also recommends that Congress
double LIHEAP formula funding so that every state in the country receives
an increase in this important investment. Contacts: Warren Gunnels with Rep.
Sanders (202/225-4115) or Katie
Waszkiewicz with Rep. Boehlert (202/225-3665).
Electricity Coordination –
Congressional Staff Tour
The region’s congressional staff are invited to tour
the control room of PJM Interconnection, which operates the electric power
grid in a 13-state region throughout the Midwest and
mid-Atlantic. Staff also will receive a briefing on regional energy
prices, implementation of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, and the operation
of a competitive power system over this 13-state region. The tour, which
will leave from and return to Washington’s
Union Station, will take place on Monday, January 23. Contact: Ginny Filipovic with PJM Interconnection
(610-666-4755).
Manufacturing Extension -- Letters
Leaders of the Manufacturing Task Forces –
Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) and Reps.
Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY), Marty Meehan (D-MA), Steven LaTourette (R-OH),
and Mike Doyle (D-PA) – have sent letters asking the Office of
Management and Budget to include level funding -- $106 million – in
the president’s fiscal 2007 budget for the Manufacturing Extension
Partnership (MEP) program. MEP centers across the country help to
improve the productivity and performance of America's small
and mid-size manufacturers and thereby enhance U.S.
economic competitiveness.
