New Alliance for Water Efficiency in Chicago

The Draft Report on creating a new Alliance for Water Efficiency, to be 
based in Chicago, is now available for public comment. A final public 
workshop is scheduled for June 6 in Washington, D.C. to obtain stakeholder 
views on the recommendations.

On Dec. 12, 2005, the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection 
Agency and the Mayor of Chicago announced that the new national organization 
on water efficiency will be located in Chicago. The announcement was made as 
part of the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Summit.

The location of Chicago was chosen based on stakeholder input from workshops 
that the location should be central, should be an airport hub, should allow 
for participation from Canada, and should be close to Washington DC to allow 
easy access to beltway meetings. A secondary office will likely be housed in 
DC. The name "Alliance for Water Efficiency" was also recommended by 
stakeholders as being a name that implied advocacy and action.
