September 7, 2006 – 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Presented by the Ohio Lake Erie Commission

Our keynote speaker and other special guests will be announced later, but save the date now for this informative program:

Lake Erie Protection & Restoration: Our Achievements – Our Challenges.

Concurrent sessions will be held throughout the day that will feature topics included in the Lake Erie Protection & Restoration Plan with select panel members leading the discussion on achievements and challenges. The Lake Erie Protection & Restoration Plan was unveiled by Governor Taft in the fall of 2000. The purpose of the plan is to recommend the implementation of specific strategic actions that could help improve the environment, recreation, and economy of the Lake Erie region in Ohio.

Luncheon includes presentation of the 2006 Lake Erie Awards and special officials’ awards.

Everyone will gather together to hear an update from project leaders regarding the Lake Erie Balanced Growth pilot projects. Three pilot projects were selected in September 2005 for the purpose of promoting voluntary, orderly growth and conservation at the local level as a means of protecting water quality and other resources in the Lake Erie basin. The watersheds included are Chagrin River, Rocky River Upper West Branch, and Swan Creek.

Registration information will be coming soon!

In conjunction with this conference, the Ohio Lake Erie Commission will hold its quarterly meeting the afternoon before the conference on Wednesday, September 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lorain CCC. The Commission meeting is a public forum in which citizens and groups interested in Lake Erie issues are welcome to attend.
