Applying Scientific, Legal, and Management Tools to the Great Lakes and Beyond

Dear Colleague:


You are invited to attend Wetlands 2006, an international symposium providing a forum for presentations and discussion on the scientific, legal and management tools relevant to sustaining and restoring wetlands and watershed functions.  The symposium will include presentations, posters and discussion on activities as well as projects describing "lessons learned" from the United States and Canada.


The symposium will be held at the Grand Traverse Resort near Traverse City, Michigan on August 28 – 31, 2006. Reception  (NEW!) 


We will be hosting a Reception on the Shore of Lake Michigan on Tuesday, August 28 from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. There will be shuttle buses to the beach that will begin running at 5:15 p.m. All are welcome!


Computer Demo Room  (NEW!)


There will be a computer demo room available from noon on Tuesday, August 28 to noon on Thursday, August 30.

ASWM commissioned artwork by talented Traverse City artist Glenn Wolff for Wetlands 2006. Limited edition signed and numbered prints will be available at the conference or can be ordered prior to the conference by conference and nonconference attendees at a reduced price. Legal Symposium as Part of Wetlands 2006:

Wetlands and Other "Waters of the U.S." Legal Issues and Challenges

As part of Wetlands 2006 there will be a day and a half legal symposium August 28 and 29 to update participants on recent federal and state court cases relevant to the protection and restoration of wetlands and other "waters of the U.S." This will include discussions on the Rapanos and Carabell cases and address a number of relevant topics including: 1) 'What did the Supreme Court decide? 2) What does the term "significant nexus" mean? and 3) What are likely federal, state, tribal and local agency response to these cases?
