SEMINARS SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER REGARDING

BEST LOCAL LAND USE PRACTICES FOR THE LAKE ERIE WATERSHED

TOLEDO, OH – Citizens, landowners, engineers, planners and local zoning and planning officials in the Lake Erie watershed are invited to attend upcoming training seminars on voluntary best local land use practices, as recommended by the Lake Erie Balanced Growth Program.

General audience sessions are set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, at Lorain Community College, Spitzer Conference Center, 1005 Abbe Road North in Elyria, and Wednesday, October 18, at the Kent State University Campus, 330 Lake Road West in Ashtabula.

The Ohio Lake Erie Commission (LEC) will host these sessions in order to share recommendations for use in local comprehensive planning, such as stormwater management, erosion/sediment control ordinances, riparian and wetlands setback ordinances, meadow protection, conservation and compact development and comprehensive planning. These recommendations were designed to encourage economic growth in the Lake Erie region, while ensuring water quality throughout the lake’s watershed.

In-depth technical workshops on best practices for local governments to use in implementing the recommendations of the Lake Erie Balanced Growth Program will be scheduled in upcoming months throughout the region.
