A few spaces are still available for the June 17-23, 2007 Ecology of Isle
Royale course for teachers, offered by the Isle Royale Institute and
Michigan Tech University. Course information and registration form are
attached.
This one-week, field-based camping experience in Isle Royale National Park
focuses on ecological concepts, wilderness ethics, and cultural history
through direct experience, observation, and discussion. The interactive
course is designed to provide elementary, middle, and high school educators
with standards-based professional development and time to plan, discuss,
and reflect on their teaching. Participants work in groups, learning and
sharing their teaching experience and ideas with other educators. The
course includes five nights of wilderness camping and backpacking, visits
with researchers, and explorations of cultural sites and a variety of
terrestrial and aquatic habitats, and incorporates the latest research in
the park.
