Northeast-Midwest Institute’s Executive
Director
The
Northeast-Midwest Institute – a Washington-based, non-profit, and
non-partisan research organization dedicated to economic vitality,
environmental quality, and regional equity for Northeast and
Midwest states –
is seeking an executive director. The executive director will
serve as the full-time chief executive officer of the Institute and
coordinate with the Northeast-Midwest Congressional and Senate
Coalitions, bi-partisan caucuses that advocate for federal policies
on agricultural, economic development, energy, environmental

Munson to
RED
Dick Munson, the
Institute’s executive director for the past 20 years, is leaving to
help start Recycled Energy Development (RED), which will capture
industrial waste heat in order to generate clean power and cut
greenhouse gases. “It’s
been a great run,” said Munson, “but it’s time for me to face new
challenges and for the Institute to benefit from new
perspectives.” He also
noted, “After years of writing and lobbying about energy efficiency
and innovative technologies, I finally get the chance to put ideas

Manufacturing
Extension Partnership – Briefing
The American Small
Manufacturers Coalition on Wednesday, February 21, will host a
luncheon briefing on the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP),
the key federal program that helps small and mid-sized manufacturers
increase their competitiveness. Staff from the Congressional
Task Force on Manufacturing also will discuss how Hill offices can
interact with and support MEP.

Great Lakes Region Economic Growth – Briefing on
Federal Policy Options
Researchers from the
Brookings Institution on March 5 will brief congressional staff on
renewal strategies for the Great
Lakes region. John Austin and Bruce Katz
will discuss findings of their recent report, The Vital Center: A
Federal-State Compact to Renew the Great Lakes Region, which
highlights the economic strengths and weaknesses of the
Great
Lakes region and makes
recommendations for regional actions and federal policies that can
support the economic growth and vitality of this important economic
area. The events are co-sponsored by the Northeast-Midwest
Institute. The House-side briefing on March 5 will begin at
