RFP Announced for FY 2008 National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has issued a request for proposals (RFP) under the National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program for FY 2008. Grants are available for the acquisition and/or restoration of coastal wetlands in states that border the Atlantic (with the exception of Louisiana) and Pacific Oceans, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Great Lakes. An estimated $16 million is available in FY 2008. To date, an estimated $183 million in grant funds have been awarded to 25 coastal states and one U.S. territory to acquire, protect, and restore over 250,000 acres of coastal wetland ecosystems through this program. Funding for the program comes from excise taxes on fishing equipment as well as motorboat and small engine fuels. Grant proposals are due to the Service's Regional Federal Assistance offices by June 29, 2007, and awards will be announced in December 2007 or January 2008.
