GLIN==> [Announcement of Funding Opportunities] NOAA/CSCOR Regional Ecosystem Prediction Program

Dear Colleagues,

NOAA's Center for Sponsored Coastal Ocean Research would like to alert the Great Lakes research and management communities to the release of our announcement of opportunities for Fiscal Year 2008 under its new Regional Ecosystem Prediction Program (REPP).  A regional scale approach to invasive species in the Great Lakes Region is one of three priorities of REPP and should be of particular interest to the members of this list.  Detailed information on this Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO) announcement can be found in the Grants.gov website as part of the NOAA FY 2008 Omnibus Federal Register Notice. You can search for the FFO in Grants.gov using the “basic search” feature and searching for CFDA number 11.478 in the appropriate search box. The FFO may also be accessed via the CSCOR website under “Funding Opportunities.”

This solicitation requests proposals that will:
  • Develop, at a regional ecosystem scale, scientific capabilities and environmental models and forecasting tools that address the interactions between invasive species and regional ecosystem-based management by assessing and predicting:
    • Changes in water quality, habitat, living resources, and
    • Consequences to the food web of the Great Lakes.
 Proposals must:
  • Include justification for the questions addressed, in terms of
    • Environmental management importance
    • Linkage to invasive species
    • Need for a regional ecosystem construct.
  • Provide detailed descriptions of the improved quantitative understanding to be achieved and predictive capability to be developed,
  • Identify management issue(s) that are being addressed and specify how results could change current management practices.
  • Clearly identify the user community for the tools and information developed along with the path by which these improved capabilities will be provided to users and applied.
  • Explicit identification of the end user group(s) is required and must include participation of co-investigators from both scientific and management entities.
  • All proposed activities must have a clear application to one or more identified coastal resource management issues that are of regional scale and relevance
Pending availability of funds, CSCOR expects to fund 1 - 3 projects lasting from 3 -5 years at a range of $0.5 - 1.0M/yr.  For additional information on this opportunity, please contact the Program Officer, Dr. Felix A. Martinez, at 301-713-3338 x153 or felix.martinez@noaa.gov.
