Great
Lakes Tributary Modeling Program http://glc.org/tributary/
The Great Lakes
Tributary Modeling Program is a joint initiative between the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers and the Great Lakes states. As directed by
Section 516(e) of the Water Resources Development Act of 1996, the
program develops tools for watershed planning that are used by
stakeholders who make decisions about soil conservation and
non-point source pollution prevention measures. By supporting these
state and local activities, this work is helping to reduce the need
for and costs of navigation dredging, while promoting actions to
de-list Great Lakes Areas of Concern. The Great Lakes Commission
provides technical and administrative support in the implementation
of this important initiative.

A recent study of temperature and wind trends on Lake Superior
found that both summer wind speeds and water temperatures have
increased between 1979 and 2006. Scientists are theorizing that the
lake was able to warm up more because the spring melt is happening
earlier. |
