OAK HARBOR RESIDENT CAPTURES JUDGES’ FAVOR IN ANNUAL

LIFE ON LAKE ERIE” PHOTO CONTEST

 

TOLEDO, OH - Oak Harbor resident Jamie Lynn Lockwood caught the judges’ attention and received the overall favorite award in the “Life On Lake Erie” Photo Contest for her image of a man and youngster fishing off Sand Beach in Ottawa County on a foggy morning. The Ohio Lake Erie Commission sponsors the contest annually.

Contest judges noted the use of natural gray tones in the photo made it very artistic.

Additional photo contest winners are from all along the Lake Erie shoreline and included an entry by a visitor from Seattle, Washington.

The photo contest, which drew 292 entries this year, is aimed at capturing the day-to-day lives of people, plants and animals that live and thrive in the Lake Erie Watershed.  Winning photos will be featured in a traveling display that will be exhibited along Ohio’s north coast in the coming months.

  • Bob Bransky of Monroe, Michigan for his photo of the Marblehead Lighthouse

 

  • Sandra Cobb of Lakewood for her picture of sunset over the Cleveland shoreline

 

  • Maggi Dandar of Curtice for her photo a winter shoreline scene on Maumee Bay

 

  • Shelly Haverkamp of Seattle, Washington for her picture of a sunset at Ruggles Beach.

 

  • Karen Hull of Port Clinton for her Catawba Island sailboat at sunset photo

 

  • Thomas G. Liskai of Helena for his July Fourth photo of fireworks along the Maumee River.

 

  • Connie Maksemetz of Tiffin for a children’s silhouette along Kelleys Island, Lake Erie.

 

  • John T. Patterson of Toledo for his photo of a white egret in a tree along the Ottawa River.

 

  • Rona Proudfoot of Lorain for snapping the photo of flying seagulls at sunset in Lakeview Park

 

  • Erin Rice of Euclid for her photo of a girl jumping rocks along the Lake Erie shore near Eastlake.

 

  • David Schneider of North Ridgeville for his print of the Lorain Lighthouse and a ship

 

  • Philip Weeks of Canton for his photo of the Fairport Lighthouse at Headlands Beach State Park.

The Ohio Lake Erie Commission is made up of the directors of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the departments of natural resources, transportation, development, health and agriculture. It was established for the purpose of preserving Lake Erie’s natural resources, protecting the quality of its waters and ecosystem, and promoting economic development in the region.

The commission also oversees the Ohio Lake Erie Protection Fund, which is the source of grant money for projects that benefit the lake’s watershed economically and environmentally. The fund is supported by Ohioans who purchase a Lake Erie license plate displaying the Marblehead Lighthouse or Toledo Harbor Lighthouse designed by Ohio artist Ben Richmond.
