The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) is seeking an experienced manager to serve as the Senior Manager of Program Staff.  The OEC is one of the nation’s premier state environmental advocacy non-profit organizations.  The OEC’s mission is to secure healthy air, land, and water for all who call Ohio home.
The position:  The Senior Manager of Program Staff’s primary responsibility is the direct supervision of seven advocacy program staff, including direct supervision, monthly work plan oversight, annual evaluations, coordination amongst programs, and overall direction of programs.  The Manager also will be responsible for managing foundation grants in collaboration with the advocacy program staff, including identifying funding sources, creating proposals, overseeing budgets, and complying with all grant reporting requirements.  The Manager will report directly to the Executive Director, will be part of the OEC’s management team (with the Executive Director, Public Affairs Director, Administrative Manager, and Director of Development), and will be the staff liaison to the Board of Director’s Strategic Planning Committee.
The organization:  The OEC is a statewide environmental advocacy group with a full-time staff of 15 and an annual budget of $1 million plus, with over three quarters of the budget coming from foundation grants and the rest from private donors.  The OEC is Ohio’s leading advocate for fresh air, clean water, and sustainable land use.  The OEC has a widely respected 40-year history of innovation, pragmatism, and success.  Using legislative initiatives, legal action, scientific principles, and statewide partnerships, we secure a healthier environment for Ohio’s families and communities.  Additional information about the organization and its programs can be found on our website, www.theoec.org.
Qualifications: The Manager must possess strong leadership qualities and have experience in the direct supervision of employees.  We expect the Manager to have integrity, self-motivation, and enthusiasm for environmental protection.  The Manager should have demonstrated skills in grant management and significant experience as a manager in an environmental or other public interest advocacy organization, the private sector, or government agency.   The Manager should have proven ability to manage and motivate a multi-person staff, create and implement long range plans, and work well with a diverse array of employees, colleagues, Board members, and outside partners.  The Manager should have substantial experience in a demanding work environment, and good communication and team-building skills.  The Manager must possess the willingness and ability to travel and occasionally work evening and weekend hours, strong writing and speaking skills, and proficiency in word processing and use of the Internet.  The minimum educational qualifications include graduation from a recognized college or university with a Bachelors Degree.  An advanced degree with specialization in environment, natural resources, nonprofit management, or public administration is preferred.  Knowledge of Ohio—environmental and economic issues, natural history, and politics—is highly desirable.
Salary and benefits:  competitive and negotiable, depending upon qualifications and experience.
