Shipments of limestone totaled 4.2 million net tons in May,
a decrease of 3.4 percent compared to a year ago. Sluggish demand in some
markets is a factor, but the dredging crisis was plainly evident. One
vessel (and 75 U.S.-Flag Lakers are in service) lost 15,000 tons of stone in
just three trips because of having to light load. A large quarry can load
40-50 stone cargos a month, so a lot of product is being left at the dock
because of inadequate dredging. Glen G. Nekvasil Vice President-Corporate Communications P: 216-861-0592 F: 216-241-8262 C: 216-702-6360 |
