Lake Michigan Coast Week events September
5-14, 2008

Lake Michigan Coast Week, September 5-14, will give
Hoosiers the chance to celebrate the area’s splendor and increase their
awareness of the region’s importance to northwest Indiana.
Each year the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Lake
Michigan Coastal Program and partner
organizations work to develop a slate of events. This year there is a wide
variety of events to celebrate the diversity and splendor of the Lake Michigan coastal region. Events include the Denis
Sullivan Sail, the Gary Clean Water Celebration at Marquette Park, an
informative hike of historical interest through the Indiana Dunes, and the
Michigan City Eco-Fit Challenge, just to name a few. Wherever you're interests
lie, there is sure to be an activity or two that you'll find interesting and
exciting. We look forward to sharing the wonders of our Lake Michigan Coastal Region with you!
This year, the Coastal
Program brings back the Denis Sullivan,
a 137-foot re-creation of a three-masted, 19th century Great Lakes schooner, to
Michigan City
harbor. The ship will be in port for three days this year with day sails and
open deck tours for the general public. The Lake Michigan Coast Week programs
and activities are provided free of cost to the public through a grant from the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office of Coastal Resource Management.
