GLIN==> August Limestone Trade on Lakes

Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 4.4 million net tons in August.  The increase compared to a year ago – 12 percent – is misleading.  August 2007 was a slow month for stone.  Lightloading was again rampant.  Some ships were slashing payloads by more than 3,000 tons each trip when destined for ports desperately in need of dredging.  See attached for more details.
