This position is located in the Great Lakes Regional Office of the
International Joint Commission (IJC) in Windsor,
Ontario. This is a full-time U.S.
Federal Government GG-13 level position with the salary range of $82,961.00 -
107,854.00 USD per year.
The IJC was established by the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909. The
IJC is an independent international organization that assists the Governments
of the United States and Canada in preventing and resolving issues and disputes
regarding the use of water and in addressing other environmental issues
affecting or potentially affecting either or both of the countries. The
IJC operates through Section Offices in Washington,
D.C., and Ottawa,
Ontario, and a binational, jointly-funded
Great Lakes Regional Office (GLRO) in Windsor,
Ontario. The GLRO assists
the Commission primarily in the discharge of the responsibilities assigned to
it under the 1978 Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (amended by Protocol in 1987).
The GLRO is staffed by multidisciplinary scientific, policy, technical, and
administrative personnel from the Canadian and United States civil services.
Public information is one of the two main functions of the GLRO, the
other being providing support for the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement
advisory bodies. The incumbent serves as the Public Information Officer
for the GRLO and coordinates public information activities including
facilitating public consultation, and providing scientific and technical,
policy, and educational writing and editing services. The incumbent
reports directly to the Director of the Great Lakes Regional Office. Most
U.S. federal employees that
work in the GLRO live in the U.S.
and commute to downtown Windsor across the Detroit River
via the bridge or tunnel; one U.S.
employee lives in Canada.
