GLIN==> Ecological restoration award nominations solicited - Wisconsin

In support of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum, the Friends of the Arboretum (FOA), in partnership with the Aldo Leopold Foundation, announces the solicitation of nominees for the 2009 Leopold Restoration Awards. This prestigious award program, named after pioneering University of Wisconsin conservationist Aldo Leopold, recognizes excellence in ecological restoration. We are currently accepting nominations of candidates who have done exemplary restoration projects in Wisconsin. The program's goal is to present awards to deserving recipients who have advanced the craft, knowledge, and public awareness of ecological restoration in the state.

Specifically, the four awards we are soliciting nominations for are:

The John T. Curtis Award--This award of $2,000 plus an engraved plaque will be given to an individual for his or her career excellence in ecological restoration.

The Virginia M. Kline Award--This award of $2,000 plus an engraved plaque will be given to a group or organization for excellence in community-based ecological restoration.

The Henry C. Greene Award--This award of $2,000 plus an engraved plaque will be given to an individual for his or her innovative approaches to ecological restoration.

The John Nolen Award--This award of an engraved plaque (and may include up to $2,000 at the discretion of the judges) will be given to an individual, organization, group, or business demonstrating the sound practice of ecological principles in specific projects and applications.

Recipients of the awards will be recognized at the Leopold Restoration Awards dinner, to be held at the UW-Madison Arboretum Visitor Center on October 8, 2009. Winners must be present at the awards ceremony.

Nominators have the option of submitting all-electronic materials or an all-paper nomination packet. If choosing to submit a paper nomination, you must send six (6) complete copies. Nominations are confidential and self-nominations are welcome.

For additional information, as well as details on the nomination process, please go to www.uwarboretum.com/foa.
