Canada's
toxic mining secret goes to court
For years, Environment Canada has permitted mining companies to hide
from the public the amount of toxic waste dumped in tailings ponds and
waste rock piles. On Monday, Great Lakes United, MiningWatch Canada and
Ecojustice will be going to court to force the Minister of the
Environment to follow the law and make these companies report their
toxic pollution.

groups release invasives plan for new U.S. administration
In the lead-up to president-elect Obama's inauguration on Tuesday,
conservation and environmental groups are calling for a renewed effort
to stop invasive species in the United States.

Years of Shared Protection
This past Sunday was the 100th anniversary of the signing of the
Boundary Waters Treaty. To commemorate the hundred years of water
cooperation it ushered, the Consulate General of Canada, the United
States Consulate General, and the International Joint Commission are
hosting Boundary Waters Week from June 5 to 14 in Niagara Falls, New
York and Ontario.
