Winter Program, Silent Auction to February 3, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Melinda Huntley, OSG Tourism Program Director, will present “You
Thought You Knew Lake Erie,” an exploration of the The Silent Auction will begin at 7 p.m. and continue throughout the
program. Among the available items for bid are tickets to next season’s
Buckeye football game against Navy; an annual membership to the Columbus Museum
of Art; tickets to the Kirtland Vintage Ohio Wine Festival; and gift
certificates to The Refectory and Cameron Mitchell Restaurants. A catalogue of
all available items can be found at stonelab.osu.edu/events/winter-program. All funds raised will benefit the programs and scholarships of Stone
Laboratory, the nation’s oldest freshwater biological field station,
located at Put-in-Bay on “This fun and informative event is a great place for people to
learn about our courses and research, how to join the Friends of Stone Lab, or
simply get your Lake Erie questions answered by the experts,” said Dr.
Jeff Reutter, Director of Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab. Information will be available regarding Stone Lab courses, as well as
field trip opportunities for students in grades 4-12 and adults. Stone Lab
merchandise will also be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting Stone
Lab scholarships. Individuals wishing to donate items for auction or RSVP should contact

support the operation and missions of the Lab. Since its creation in 1981, FOSL
has raised more than $1 million in endowments; bought equipment like
microscopes, computers, and rowboats; supported scholarships for over 500
students; and funded research assistants and visiting professors. OSU’s Ohio Sea Grant program is part of NOAA Sea Grant, a network
