Anchor Bay Yachting Association and the Clinton River Watershed Council are joining forces once again this year to coordinate the 5^th Annual Clean Boating Workshop (new class this year – Clean and Green Boating Workshop). Participants in this workshop will learn about simple practices they can use on the boat, around boat wells, gas docks, and marinas to keep harmful pollutants out of the lake, as well as general water quality information and other water-quality improvement projects happening on Lake St. Clair and the Clinton River. The harmful impacts of aquatic nuisance species will also be discussed, along with the role that boaters must play in limiting the spread of these unwanted members in the Great Lakes Waterways. Special Guest Speakers: include Ken DeBeaussaert

Director, Office of the Great Lakes Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Luanne Laemmerman Chief of the Environmental Unit Macomb County Prosecutors’ Office and Steve Stewart Extension Educator Michigan Sea Grant Program.

Protecting our water is up to all of us. Everyone likes to boat, fish, swim in clean waters, and drink safe tap water. When you think about the 2+ million boating trips that happen every year on Lake St. Clair and its connecting waters, those little spills that happen while cleaning the boat, at the gas dock, and in the bilge really add up. Just one (1) quart of oil can pollute 250,000 gallons of water, boating is good clean fun; we need to keep it that way.

The Clean and Green Boating Workshop is open to the public and will take place on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, registration 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm workshop from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm at Mac & Ray’s Banquet Center (30675 North River Road, Harrison Twp.). All boaters and yes, even non-boaters are welcome to attend.
