The Integration of Eco-design into Company Business Systems
seeba 3rd Annual Conference
Date: 3rd July 2003
Venue: Waverley Abbey House Hotel
(www.waverleyabbeyhouse.org.uk)
Sponsored by: SEEDA (www.seeda.co.uk)
Organised by: seeba (www.cfsd.org.uk/seeba)
No longer can companies afford to ignore the ever increasing environmental
product legislation if they wish to compete in the global
marketplace. For example, compliance with WEEE, RoHS and other laws will
produce a range of organisational challenges related to moving thinking
from corporate functions to business unit implementation. This is set
alongside a changing business model that places more emphasis on supply
chains or networks which also poses a new set of challenges. The first half
of the conference looks at the forces in operation, both social and
legislative, the impact on industry and the opportunities they present in
marketing and communications. We have distinguished speakers in this arena.
They include Ted Smith from the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition, one of the
main NGO’s in the US leading environmental campaigns on dumping of
high-tech waste, Dr Kieren Mayers, Environmental Programmes Manager of
Sony Computer Entertainment, an expert in the financial impacts of WEEE
take back, and Professor Martin Charter one of the country’s leading
experts in environmental marketing.
In the afternoon we have presentations describing industry best practices
from companies that are recognised as some of the leaders in
the field. These include presentations from Dr Markus Stutz from Motorola,
Germany, Annukka Sairanen, UK Environmental Manager of
Hewlett-Packard, and Maarten ten Houten of Philips Consumer Electronics,
Netherlands.
