You ask for information on technology that prevents waste rather than
transfering it. There are two excellent examples of such technology in the
organic coatings field. The conventional approach makes industrial coatings
from polymeric resins dissolved in solvents. Upon application the solvents
evaporate off as VOCs which contribute to smog and to HAPs which are toxic.
The new technology eliminates such solvents completely. Powder coatings are
solid, solventless coatings with excellent performance characteristics that
are now being used on a wide variety of metal products.
Similarly the UV and EB cured coatings are formulated without solvents. They
are liquids composed totally of reactive ingredients which are converted
virtually 100% to solids. They are used commercially on a great variety of
commercial substrates such as paper, plastics, glass and wood as well as on
metals.
Both these technologies are growing rapidly and have the potential of dramatic
