U.S. EPA has released a beta version of the Waste Minimization Assessment
Tool (WMPT), which is designed to help organizations prioritize their
(chemical) wastes based on risk-scoring algorithms embedded in the tool.
The beta version contains data for some 850 chemicals. The scoring
addresses persistence, bioaccumulative potential, and toxicity (PBT)
factors for each chemical. The tool can be downloaded at:

http://www.epa.gov/epaoswer/hazwaste/minimize/tool/tooldown.htm

The tool was released following a June 23, 1997 Federal Register notice,
and EPA is currently reviewing comments on the tool.
