Transportation and tourism

Dear P2Techers:

Greetings from a somewhat soggy Santa Barbara, California!

I'm hoping some of you out there might be able to help us out on a project
my agency is considering.

I work for the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District and we
are looking in to designing a project around transportation and tourism.
Santa Barbara County has a large tourism industry, large enough that we are
thinking about targeting tourists with information on alternative
transportation choices. The goal is to get them to leave their cars and
get around town by bus, bike, or our local downtown electric shuttle. We
envision working with hotels to include our information in hotel rooms,
working with Amtrak to offer discounts, and even perhaps producing a video
to run on a local community access channel that has an "Around the Town"
program.

I am interested in finding out if anything like this has been done already.
Wouldn't want to re-invent the wheel! I am also interested in hearing
about other types of programs dealing with the hotel industry, such as
water conservation programs. Whereas our main focus will obviously be from
an air quality standpoint, we also plan on including other P2 information.

Please reply to me directly at the e-mail listed below. Thanks in advance
for your help!
