OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL BUSINESS IN ASIA-
A SPECIAL CONFERENCE ON
POLLUTION PREVENTION AND THE FINANCIAL CRISIS

Session 1 (8-10:15am)
EXPORTS TO ASIA - IDENTIFYING THE CHALLENGES DURING THE FINANCIAL CRISIS
This session will provide include an overview of the financial situation in
Asia, including a detailed discussion of the factors affecting business
in the region.  Case studies / best practices will be discussed by those
who have directly addressed the challenges in recent months. Speakers
familiar with the marketplace will discuss first-hand experiences in
Asia within the last year.


Session 2(10:30-12:00pm)
ADDRESSING THE CHALLENGES THROUGH BUILDING
PARTNERSHIPS FOR POLLUTION PREVENTION EXPORTS

This session will involve an overview of pollution prevention and
possible opportunities for promoting P2 in Asia.  The session will
include discussion on effective methods of transferring pollution
prevention technologies internationally.  The importance of global
markets to P2 firms will be discussed.  Building partnerships to promote
P2 exports will be discussed. Successful trade / environmental
partnerships will be highlighted. 

LUNCH

Session 3: MARKET OPPORTUNITIES IN ASIA IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL
ARENA (1:15 PM - 2:15 PM)	

This session will include discussion on opportunities for
environmental business in Asia during the financial crisis.  Are there
opportunities for commercial activities in the region?  What industrial
sectors show the most promise for US environmental firms?  What types of
projects are being funded?  Panelists will discuss new obstacles as well
as new opportunities in the region.

		
Session 4: ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION: WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? (2:30 PM - 4:00 PM)	

This session would tie together results from the previous three
sessions by analyzing the current financial situation in the Asia region
and its effects on environmental technology exports.  The discussion may
target relationships between pollution prevention activities and export
promotion, and then focus on future collaborative efforts between groups
within the states and among states.  The session would also continue to
discuss the status of the Asian economy and ways to adapt program to
continue to take advantage of environmental opportunities in the
region.  This session may involve breakout groups that would give
attendees the opportunity to strategize on ways to continue the
dialogue.
