The Northeast Recycling Council (NERC), a coalition of recycling and
economic development officials representing 10 Northeastern states, is
seeking an Executive Director.  Founded in 1987 as an affiliate of the
Council of State Governments, NERC's mission is to ensure the long-term
viability of recycling in the Northeast while maximizing its full
environmental and economic benefits.  NERC has established a reputation
for highly effective, cutting edge work focused on promoting recycling
industry growth by catalyzing action among financiers, entrepreneurs and
government decision makers.  NERC's programs include coordinating
information flow among its member agencies, regional research on market
development and policy issues, documenting economic and environmental
statistics, conducting the annual Northeast Recycling Investment Forum
and extensive outreach and coordination with a wide variety of state and
federal officials, industry associations, economic developers, business
owners and managers, financial organizations and many others. 
The Position

Working closely with the Executive Committee, the Executive Director is
responsible for administering all aspects of NERC's operations,
including managing a 5-person staff headquartered in Brattleboro,
Vermont; coordinating with NERC's state members, federal agencies and
other recycling advocacy organizations; developing and implementing
projects; fund raising; strategic planning; budgeting and reporting.  
Salary depends on experience, and includes a generous benefits package.

Desired Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and successfully complete
multiple, complex programs and projects.
- Extensive knowledge and experience related to recycling market
development, waste prevention, economic development and environmental
policies and programs.
- Experience in management and budget administration.
- Familiarity with financing and other business development issues.
- A successful track record in grant writing and fund raising.
- Familiarity with state and federal government administrative
procedures, including budgeting and policy-making processes.
- A degree in administration, finance, economics, public policy or
another appropriate field related to NERC's mission.  (Masters degree
- Experience in developing consensus positions among diverse interests.
