anodizing etch -Reply



Caustic etching creates aluminum hydroxide sludge that must be dealt
with either by regeneration ( best ) or disposal.  Furthermore, caustic
etching smuts the aluminum ( turns it black ) and requires a acidic ( nitric
acid/ HF ?) desmut stage and another rinse.

On the plus side, causic etching yields a more uniformly etched surface.
