Re: P2 and Inspections

Judy, Ohio EPA's RCRA program inspectors have been integrating P2 into inspections since September of 1999. RCRA inspectors make P2 suggestions themselves and complete P2 assessments. They may also ask for phone or on-site assistance from Ohio EPA's Office of Pollution Prevention.

In the past few months the Division of Hazardous Waste Management's P2 team has been developing metrics to measure the success and impact of their P2 efforts during inspections. We will start compiling data on this soon. Feel free to stay in contact with me on the measures and Ohio EPA's efforts. I will be responsible for tracking the measurement of this.

Also see the following web link for information on the Division's P2 strategy and implementation: http://www.epa.state.oh.us/dhwm/p2report.html

Hello All,

I'm looking for examples (and results) where state or local governments
have integrated pollution prevention into inspections of regulated
facilities, either by having someone from the P2 program tagging along on
media inspections, or by providing pollution prevention training to the
inspectors.

Thanks so much,
