i've heard of biofiltration for capturing odiferous gases generated from the
composting. process. however, i believe the filtration media was soil and
fine wood chips or sawdust.

seems like compost has higher-value applications than for biofiltration? but
maybe compost has more absorption/adsorption capabilities or can support more
enzymatic/biotic life to digest the gases? (i'm guessing for reasons they'd
use the compost instead of a lower-value media that otherwise might go to
landfill).

A good resource might be NaturTech, manufacturer of in-vessel composting
systems that use biofiltration.
