When I was with a coil coating firm, we had some success with an 80/20 mix of Methyl Isobutyl Ketone (MIBK) and Acetone. Seemed to work well, but needs to be kept sealed when not in use, otherwise the percent composition can change rather rapidly due to the higher evaporation rate of Acetone. You may want to test it on PVA first, because I'm not sure as to whether it will affect it adversely.
