Substitution for Sodium Chromate?

I'm received a request from a company that manufactures gas absorption refrigerators and freezers for the RV, Marine and Truck industries.  They are interested in the possible substitution of sodium vanadate for sodium chromate.  They are not familiar with sodium vanadate being used as a rust inhibitor but are interested in any alternatives to their existing process and chemical use.

Any help, suggestions and case studies would be appreciated.
