I have seen several manufacturers use induction heating processes -- what's
nice about them is that depending on the type of stock, they can be built
on line right into the process. It's great for wire cold forging and for
stress relieving some metals like silicon bronze before doing further
maching or punching operations.
I would think you could get a few vendors to develop estimates and then you
could augment the estimates if they omit the (hidden) environmental costs
associated with the processes they are currently using.
