Phosphorus free chemicals

Wondering if anyone has run into a definition of "phosphorus-free" when it
comes to chemicals from vendors used for cleaning or production processes?
This came up recently with one of our intern companies, who is researching
P-free chemicals, that still have a certain amount of phosphates in them.
