Recycling scrap electronics

A student wrote our commission for help, and I thought this international list server might be helpful.

Hi,

I am a master student at the International Institute for Industrial
Environmental Economics, Lund University, Sweden and I am working on my
thesis where, as part of a LCA project conducted by the University of
Tennessee, I am looking at lead free solders in the electronic industry. My
part of the project is to investigate the possibilities to recycle solders
and how the substitution of lead could have an impact on the recyclability
of
solder.

At this moment, I am trying to picture the fate of printed circuit boards
(PCB) scarp, and electronic scrap in general, generated in the States -
how much is recycled, is reused, is deposited in landfills respectively
incinerated. Furthermore I am trying to map out the different recycling
steps and actors involed. If you have any information about this or any
figures/data for Texas that you could provide me I would be
delighted.

Thank you very much for your time!

Sincerely,

Ulrika Kindesjö
