RE: a few mercury use questions

Hi Michelle,

I looked in the Interstate Mercury Education & Reduction Clearinghouse
(IMERC) Mercury-Containing Products Database that NEWMOA manages at:
http://www.newmoa.org/prevention/mercury/imerc/notification/

I found mercury-containing switches used in leveling systems and hood
switches used in recreational vehicles (listed under "Browse By Product"
then "recreational vehicle"). I also found a listing from one truck
manufacturer who uses a hood switch and rollover switch (also listed
under "Browse By Product", then "automobiles").

Subject: a few mercury use questions

Does anyone know if the semiconductor industry is heading away from the
advanced alloy mercury-cadmium-telluride (hg-cd-te), and going to
zinc-cd-te?

Does anyone know if hg switches commonly used in automobiles (e.g.,
acceleration sensor for anti-lock brakes, hood lights, etc.), are also
common
in industrial/cargo trucks? are other mercury switches used - e.g.,
leveling/suspension, tip-over switch to cut off the fuel supply if the
rig
turns over.

thanks much.
