Re: Paints

Along that line the nr may be a vestige of old rules and refer to
non-photochemically reactive as defined in the old Cailfornia Rule 66 -

"The compositional limitations of any organic solvent referred to in
this rule are the volume percentages of the following photochemically
reactive compounds, compared to the total solvent volume:
   1. A combination of hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, esters,
ethers, or ketones having an olefinic or cyclo-olefinic type of
      unsaturation: 5 percent.
   2. A combination of aromatic compounds with eight or more carbon
atoms to the molecule, except ethylbenzene: 8 percent.
   3. A combination of ethylbenzene, ketones having branched hydrocarbon
structures, trichloroethylene or toluene: 20 percent.
   4. (4) Any aggregate of (1), (2), or (3) above, provided their
individual volume percentages are not exceeded: 20 percent. "

Here at the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, one of our
engineers suggested that "nr" might stand for "non-photochemically
reactive"--"Solvents which do not react with sunlight to cause ozone or
smog" (see http://www.sharpe1.com/term-n-r.htm).

Perhaps an email querry to the experts at the Sharpe website might shed
more light on the question.

Hope this helps.

I was told that (nr) after the name on paints, thinner, laquer cans etc
means new regulations standard, lower VOC 's. Have you ever heard of
this
or what the nr stands for?
