RE: Cayenne pepper sludge

Judith,

Can you tell us how efficient the extraction process is - does the sludge still contain active cayenne oils?

Is the sludge pressed/dried...how oil-contaminated is the waste?

Buying pure capsaicin (the "heat" in cayenne) may sidestep the entire process avoiding both significant waste generation and energy use. As previously suggested, using a different method to extract the oils may minimize or eliminate the use of olive oil and the sludge.

Subject: Cayenne pepper sludge

The request is from a company that uses cayenne pepper in the manufacturing of
sore muscle rubs. Olive oil and the cayenne pepper are mixed together for a
time - then after the pepper infuses the oil the olive oil is strained out.
This leaves a cayenne pepper sludge as a by-product. Any ideas for use of this
by-product to avoid disposal?

Thanks,
