Re: Availability of "Engines", Calculators or Worksheets

We have an energy guidebook on our website at www.state.nj.us/dep/opppc
that does some of these calculations and is quite simple to use.

Helping Minnesota businesses maximize resource efficiency, prevent
pollution and reduce costs.

We are looking for tools to estimate the impact (in terms of waste
reduced,
energy saved, and dollars saved) of waste reduction and energy saving
recommendations resulting from on-site assessments of businesses and
institutions (public buildings, schools, etc.). These tools should be
comprehensive and easy to use, and should include information on data
required to be obtained during the assessments, and algorithms to
calculate
impact ("calculators"). The tools should be able to be used by report
writers; alternatively, the tools could be used to add quantitative
data on
the impacts of report recommendations at the time of technical
review/editing.

Possible "calculators" (in no particular order)

Energy:

Windows; lighting (controls, types, etc.); HVAC (economizers, pumps,
motors, compressors, heat pump systems, boilers, heat wheels, filters,

etc.); motors; pumps; water heating; building reconfiguration (ceiling

height, etc.?); building envelope (door sweeps, caulking, insulation,
weather stripping, etc.); gas vs. electric appliances; controls (for
various systems, this may be redundant); laundry issues (water use,
soap
use, water temp., ozonation, etc.); air compressor systems; ceiling
fans;
computers/electronics (Energy Star compatibility, on/off policy).

Waste Reduction:

Recycling (taxes and fees saved and/or dollars earned per weight or
volume); source separation (wood, organics, kitchen oil and grease,
re-usable materials); water (consumptive use - billing; plumbing
fixtures);
wastewater quality and quantity modification.
